Luellen was born on July 28, 1941 in Rock Hill, the third daughter of the late Clarence and Carolyn Neely Senn. She was raised on the family farm, Snow White Dairy, in the Newport community and was graduated from York High School in 1959. She received her BS degree in Education from Winthrop College in 1963 and her Master’s in Education from East Carolina University in 1981. In 1968, Luellen married Richard A. Guyer (MSGT USMC ret.) of Wilmington, DE, who precedes her in death. Luellen taught in the primary grades in Manassas, VA, York County, and Craven County, NC for over 25 years until she retired in 2000 and returned to build her home on the family farm in Newport. She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for her gracious and warm hospitality, her cheerful disposition, her love of cats, her cherished potato salad recipe, and for her devotion to her alma mater, Winthrop. Luellen often said “With a Winthrop education, you can do anything.”
